Saint Catherine of Siena is depicted in a white habit with a veil, standing at an altar and clasping her hands in prayer, her face lit softly as she looks upward. A rosary hangs from her belt while a skull and several books rest on the altar, introducing a memento mori motif. The composition uses strong chiaroscuro with a luminous figure set against a deep dark background, rendered in a naturalistic Florentine Baroque style characteristic of Cristofano Allori.
