Triptych: Saint Catherine of Siena

Central panel of a triptych, Saint Catherine of Siena is depicted in a half-length, frontal pose against a gold ground with a halo and an ornate pointed-arch frame. She wears a white veil and dark robe, and holds a stem of white lilies in her left hand and a red-bound book in her right. The composition shows slender, softly modeled features and a luminous gold background, characteristic of Sano di Pietro’s late Gothic Sienese style.
