A 17th-century Dutch hunting scene in which a hunter reclines among rocks with a long gun across his chest and a brown-and-white dog at his side. A large blue-grey bird with outstretched wings dominates the center, while the foreground is scattered with the hunter’s quarry and other game. The composition uses a strong diagonal, with stark light and shadow and a naturalistic Baroque style typical of van Noort’s hunting subjects.
