Christ and the Samaritan Woman

Christ sits at a raised hexagonal well on the left, facing the Samaritan woman who stands before him in a pale gold dress with a tall red head covering, extending his hand as if speaking. The woman holds a small bucket and gestures toward him, while to the right a pink architectural facade with arches frames a doorway through which a group of onlookers watches the scene. The gold ground, vivid blues and reds in the figures’ garments, and the linear, stylized forms exemplify the Sienese Gothic style of Duccio, with a shallow, stage-like space and carefully modeled drapery.
