Pierre François Eugène Giraud was a French painter and engraver. In 1867 he painted one of the best known portraits of writer Gustave Flaubert, now housed at the Palace of Versailles. He also completed a pastel portrait of his friend, Alexandre Dumas, at the height of the novelist's career in 1845. He won many awards and honors in recognition for his work. He was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1851 and was promoted to Officer in 1866.
